Word Wall and Spelling Words

You will notice that there are only two new Word Wall Words this week. I want to spend this week and next reviewing and working with the words we have. There will be no new Word Wall Words until after Christmas. Please review Key Words over Christmas with your child until he/she knows them by sight.
For Spelling this week we are reviewing the "ay" spelling pattern.
Also, we have been working hard on learning to use the short vowels in reading and writing and they should be solid. After Christmas we will focus on long vowels.

Message from Santa

Please see a new link, portablenorthpole.tv. With a little input from you, your child can receive a personalized video message from Santa. Four easy steps. Thanks Mrs. Gramlich, for letting me know about it!

Two Weeks 'Til Christmas Break

We will be doing some Christmas crafts on Friday, December 16th. Some parent help would be beneficial. I am still looking for one or two more helpers for the Gingerbread Baking Day, Tuesday, December 20th. We roll, cut and bake from 11:00 to 12:00, although I need another one or two parents to be able to bake during lunch if necessary. It is hard to judge how long it will take. The decorating in the afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00, students handle quite well on their own, but getting the cookies packaged for home and things cleaned up requires adult help. Please let  me know. So far I have Mrs. Gramlich and Mrs. Sparrow for both baking and decorating and Mrs. Mitchell for decorating. If we had one more parent for the morning baking, who could stay until the cookies were baked, we could manage quite nicely.

Crafts

There will be no craft time on Friday, Dec. 8th due to me being ill. We will "craft" extra hard next Friday! I apologize for any inconvenience this change in plans has caused.

I'm "gonna" let it shine!
Thank you parents, for getting your children spiffed up and to school for our concert. The girls all looked as sweet as can be and the boys cute as bugs! They sang their little hearts out and I think sounded great, although I may be a little bias! Let me know if anyone got a light-up angel that doesn't work. I have a couple of extras just in case.

December Happenings

We are in the Christmas Spirit and looking forward to some special Christmas activities.  The most important is our annual Gingerbread Cookie Bake with our 3B Buddy Class.  We rely on several helpers for this activity to be a success. Our plan is to do them on Tuesday, December 20th; roll and bake from 11:00 to 12:00 and decorate from 1:00 to 2:00. You can help in the morning, afternoon or both. We also plan on two Friday afternoon craft times; December 9th and 16th.  If you are interested in helping out please let me know and I will fill you in on the details.

Christmas Concert

Our Christmas Concert is Wednesday, December 7th at 7:00 pm. Students should be in the classroom between 6:45 and 6:50.
Children are to dress in whatever you would like them to wear.  Girls, this is a chance to wear that pretty Christmas dress.  As well, I would like each girl to have some silver or gold garland put in their hair (to be done at home before the concert). I will send home a piece for you to use, but feel free to use something else if you prefer.  Also, I suggest boys not wear a Christmas sweater as it tends to get very warm in the classroom and on stage.
We have several activities planned for December which I could use parent help with.  I will send home details tomorrow.

Kady's Butterfly

Kadence brought in a butterfly. She told us a lot about the life cycle and had a great question: How many eggs does a butterfly lay? We did a little research and learned

According to Dr. Karen Oberhauser who has studied the female Monarch Butterfly the average female lays about 700, laying one at a time, but this varies year to year due to climate.

Remembrance Day

Students attended our Remembrance Day Service held in the gymnasium on Thursday.  Thank you to Brandon S. for bringing in pictures and medals to share to help bring something personal and tangible to the student's experience.
We created some sunset scenes with crosses to commemorate Remembrance Day.

October

We have had a great full week in 1T! Students are doing well working in Literacy Groups; developing both independent and cooperative work skills. As we move on in our program students will be involved in more activities that require collaboration; working with others to achieve a goal. I can tell this group is well on their way to success in this area!
We ended the week with some fun Halloween crafts with help from Mrs. Thorsen, Mrs. Gramlich and Mr. Dennis. Thank you to those parents for their help.
