Science
We continue to learn about how we use our senses to learn and stay safe. Today we tried a "blind walk" with a buddy so students could appreciate how much we rely on our eye sight. As well, students were introduced to the story of Helen Keller with the first 25 minutes of the 2000 Disney version of The Miracle Worker. There was much discussion and some interesting insights as students tried to comprehend how this 6 year old Deaf-Blind child could learn. We also talked about the word "Miracle" and what it means. For our purpose we settled on something amazing, wonderful or difficult to believe. I told children that we will be witnessing the miracle of new life after Spring Break. Ask your child to tell you about it.
1-T Town
Our town was officially named 1-T Town by a secret ballot vote. Students had mixed feelings about the outcome, but the concept of "majority rule" was experienced.

1-T Town
Although it is not officially named, we went through the process of organizing our town today. It was an interesting process and there were some strong opinions about where certain buildings should be located. I wonder if our town planners had similar issues. In the end, we learned that there are many things to consider and there isn't one answer. I hope you can find your child's building in one of these pictures. Ask him/her why they chose to place it there. Or if their building was moved from it's original spot, why? As well, we realized we were missing some important services; a library, a bank and a church to name three. Jessie is busy making a library and we'll see about the bank and church.

PLEASE EXCUSE THE MESS - my students are busy learning!
It was a grand afternoon! 1T students got busy and created buildings for the community we are planning. The best part for me was to watch the collaboration of creative little minds, helping each other with everything from a tricky tape dispenser to structural challenges. I won't reveal pictures of the buildings yet, but here are a few of the building crew busy at work.
Did someone say they needed tape? |

So Lincoln, do you have an opinion on glue sticks; cow or yellow? |

Looking for boxes
We are looking for empty boxes we can use to build our 1T Community. We can use a variety of sizes but not too big. Most useful would be the size packages of Fun Fruits or Bear Paws come in. Some other sizes would be kleenex/tissue, small shoe boxes, small cereal boxes. Anything within this size range would be great. My hope is to build our buildings this Friday afternoon. If you would like to come in and help just let me know!
