Spring Brings New Life
I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, but.......... we do have some eggs incubating in the classroom. Hopefully it will be Spring Weather when they hatch. Please ask your child all about it. We love coming up with questions and this is a good project for generating great ones!

More about Seuss Critters
Next week we will be painting and decorating our critters. If you have any fun and fanciful crafty odds and ends around the house that you are willing to share, please send in starting Monday. Things like craft doll hair, colourful yarn, pom poms, feathers, bright coloured scraps of felt or fun foam, pipe-cleaners, funky button or anything else you can think of would be great. Please do not feel you need to go out and buy items as we always seem to get enough with found things.
Paper Mache Friday
1-T is ready to paper mache the Seuss critters we have made and we need help! If you are available from 2:10 to 3:00 pm Friday, April 26th, please roll up your sleeves and come in to our classroom for some good old-fasioned paper mache fun!

Student Led Conferences
We
will be having Student-Led Conferences on Wednesday, April 17th from
4:00 to 7:00 pm. The Conference will take place in our classroom. You are
welcome to arrive any time between 4:00 and 6:30. Please plan to spend
approximately 30 minutes.
During
the conference you will spend some time with your child, looking at work,
talking about your child’s learning and setting goals for the last eleven weeks
in Grade One. I will be available to
assist you and answer questions.
If
you feel you would like to schedule a private conference time, please contact
me so we can make arrangements.

Awesome Afternoon!
I am so proud of my students! They did a great job working together to create buildings for the community we are planning. Thank you for sending in boxes and thanks to Mrs. Toogood for her help with this activity. Next week it will be interesting to go through the process of "Town Planning"; deciding where the buildings should go and why.

Writing
Please note that there are no new Spelling Words this week.
Your child is on the hunt for new ideas for writing. Will you help your child select an object that will be a starting point for a piece of writing?
This object should
- be personally meaningful to your child.
- have a story behind it (perhaps how your child got it and why it is special).
- be of little monetary value (in case it gets lost).
- be easy to carry.
The object could be a refrigerator magnet from a special vacation, a rock from the front yard where your child learned to ride a bike or shoot baskets, a ticket stub from a favorite concert or a sporting event, a picture of someone or something important, a card or letter from a special person, or a CD with a song that brings back a significant memory. We're going to be writing stories about why these objects are special. The object will be returned to you by the end of the week.
Thanks for your help. I look forward to sharing your child's writing with you once the project is complete.
