This Week

In Word Work we continue to focus on the long vowels with the silent e. I have included phonetic stories in "Read to Self" and "Home Reading"  for students who would benefit from extra practice with this.
In Math we are learning about 2-D and 3-D shapes and solids.  On Science we have stared a new topic; Our Senses. We got back into the water colours today and plan to have a beautiful display ready for our Conferences next Wednesday.

Ah, yes! Looking good!

Student Led Conferences next week

We will be having Student-Led Conferences on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.  I would like to accommodate you as much as possible so am sending home this schedule for you to consider.  Please indicate your first and second choice for a block of time and let me know in an email or with a note as soon as possible.

As in November, the blocks of time are 60 minutes.  I do not anticipate you requiring that much time, but want to be sure things are not rushed.  Please plan to spend about 30 - 40 minutes within that time block.  During the conference you will spend some time with your child, looking at work, talking about learning and goal setting.  You and your child will also spend some time talking with me (about five to ten minutes).  The order these things are done does not matter as long as we accomplish both.  I am hoping the hour block will allow plenty of time and things will flow.

I will confirm your conference time as soon as I get responses back.

If you want to schedule an individual private conference please let me know and we will arrange it.

Art Gallery of Alberta

Thank you Mrs. Hanly, Mrs. Legault and Mrs. Hugh for making the time to volunteer.  You were awesome!  It was a bit of a rush getting the Studio Project done, but I think all agree it was a worthwhile trip. Being in the building itself is an experience. The tour and project taught students to look at landscape and see the background, middle ground and foreground. The end piece of work is unique. I want to keep them at school for a bit as a display. Hope you enjoy the pictures and gain some insight into our day.

No new spelling words this week.

We had an AMAZINGLY GREAT DAY!

We have been working up to this special number and today I saw a few more "light bulbs" come on for students during our 100th Day Activities.  They could all tell me 10 groups of ten is 100, but today some really got it!  It has been said, "A picture is worth 1000 words", so here you are.
10 strips of 10 = 100 Stickers

100 Days Smarter

Decisions, decisions!

1800 Stickers

Race to 100

A yummy mix of 1400 goodies! We consumed about half and the students know. It's going to take some willpower on my part to not sneak a noticeable amount this evening as I do my planning.

SWEET, SOUR, SALTY.
