READING

In reading we are working on long vowel sounds; the silent e and the double vowel. At this time your child should know all the short vowels and be using them when reading and writing. Please review with your child.

In Home Reading your child is trying to choose books that are a comfortable challenge. This means that he/she can read most of the words but need to rely on strategies to figure out a few of them. Strategies include; sounding out, using context, using the picture, re-reading and finally asking for help. As well we are working on fluency and expression. Re-reading familiar text is beneficial if this is the objective. Overall, the goal for each child is to increase his/her reading level by at least two (letters) over the next few months. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.
